This workshop will address children with severe and complex disabilities who often have feeding difficulties, making mealtimes challenging. What does feeding and mealtime mean for them? How can we provide them with good mealtime experiences and act as a “thermometer” in the interaction and relationship between the child and their caregiver? What role do other children play in creating an inclusive mealtime setting? What about the thoughts and feelings of children who are unable to communicate about their meals? The focus will be on the important—and often crucial—contributions from the field of education, in an area where pedagogy and medicine intersect. To address these questions, the workshop will use video examples and reflection tasks as methodology.
